Overview

Discover one of Uganda’s most beautiful and less-crowded safari destinations on this 3-day Mgahinga Gorilla Trekking and Golden Monkey Safari. This experience takes you deep into the far southwestern corner of Uganda, where the dramatic Virunga Volcanoes rise above misty forests, terraced hills, and quiet mountain communities.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park may be Uganda’s smallest national park, but it offers one of the country’s most rewarding wildlife experiences. The park is home to endangered mountain gorillas, rare golden monkeys, forest birds, volcanic scenery, and the rich cultural heritage of the Batwa people, who once lived within these forests.

Your journey begins with a scenic road transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Kisoro, passing through Uganda’s countryside, rolling hills, tea plantations, farmlands, and beautiful highland landscapes. The main highlight of the tour is a guided gorilla trekking experience, where you enter the forest with expert Uganda Wildlife Authority guides in search of a mountain gorilla family. Once located, you spend one unforgettable hour observing them as they feed, rest, groom, and move through their natural habitat.

The adventure continues with golden monkey tracking, a lighter but exciting forest experience that takes you into the bamboo zones of Mgahinga. These rare and playful primates are known for their golden-orange fur, fast movement, and lively group behavior. This makes the experience excellent for photographers, nature lovers, and travelers who want a broader primate safari beyond gorillas alone.

This tour is ideal for travelers who want a short but meaningful Uganda wildlife escape, combining gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, scenic landscapes, cultural encounters, and comfortable lodge stays in the peaceful Kisoro highlands.
